Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "The only way to have a friend is to be one." In the spirit of those inspiring words, Ask Emerson is a feature designed to help you be the best friend you can be. Each month, we will select a question or two for responses. Send your questions to eBuddiesComments@bestbuddies.org.

Dear Emerson,

I stopped getting email from my e-Buddy for a while but then they started coming again. I asked someone to look into it and they told me that my buddy had been emailing the whole time. How come I receive them sometimes but other times, I don’t?

Sincerely,
Frustrated in Florida

Dear Frustrated in Florida,

With the popularity of email quickly soaring, a lot of things constantly change. One of those things is the amount of junk mail you receive in your email inbox. I recently found a folder in my email account called SPAM. I opened the folder and there was lots of junk email and stuff I was glad to never receive. But then I saw a familiar email address, ebuddy@ebuddies.org. I realized that an email from my e-Buddy had accidentally gone into my SPAM folder. A SPAM folder is a folder for “junk mail” or advertisement emails. A lot of email programs are now running programs like this in an effort to keep their customers happy by toning down the amount of SPAM or junk mail that the customer receives. I suggest that even if you continue to receive mail from your e-Buddy, check your SPAM folder once a week. If you are not sure where to locate the folder, your Internet provider should be able to help. Bye for now.

Signing off,
Emerson
