Dear Friend,
Thomas Jefferson wrote,
“We hold these truths to be self-evident:
that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their creator
with certain inalienable rights.”
Working for Best Buddies means I have seen too many Americans who don’t believe that Mr. Jefferson meant to include people with intellectual disabilities in his sweeping declaration. That is why Best Buddies exists – to help provide more opportunity for those with disabilities.
July’s fireworks remind me that independence is always worth celebrating – and I celebrate the ongoing struggle to extend that freedom to those with intellectual disabilities.
