Here in Washington, D.C., August marks the end of summer and the beginning of harvest. Seeing the abundance of fruits and vegetables at my local farmer's market makes me count up what the summer has brought for e-Buddies.
We had an excellent team of e-Buddies Training Corps interns this summer. Eight college students worked in six different cities teaching computers skills to nearly 200 adults with intellectual disabilities. Collectively, they worked over 1,400 hours.
In July, e-Buddies staff members trained nearly 1,000 high school and college student leaders from around the world at our annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference in Bloomington, Indiana. These students truly will change the world in their home communities by campaigning for friendship for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Finally, sometime this month, we will reach a huge milestone – 300,000 e-mails exchanged by our members! That number represents a truly bumper crop of life-changing friendships.
Thank you for being part of e-Buddies this summer!
Vice President, e-Buddies
