The month of July opens with a celebration and ends with anticipation.
Picnics and parades and fireworks are hallmarks of July Fourth across the United States, providing fitting fanfare to our nation's past and our future. I like to think that these celebrations contain the sparks of full equality for Americans who are still denied it, especially those with intellectual disabilities.
The end of July brings the anticipation of a new school year, which begins in many communities in mid-August. August is when more of our members become active after the long summer vacation, and our enrollments begin to climb.
Enjoy your Independence Day this July, and remember to continue fighting for freedom for everyone.
All the best,
Lisa Marlene Derx
