Letter from the Director Ask Emerson Best Buddies Spotlight e-Buddy of the Month Tech Corner

contents

Dear Friend,

Best Buddies has adopted a new slogan, “I See You,” based on a greeting widely used in Central Africa . It is fitting for Best Buddies, since saying I see you to another person means you recognize them as a fellow human being, an equal.

Often, when someone first gets to know someone with an intellectual disability, they are nervous and afraid to treat that person as they would any other new acquaintance. Our familiar refrain is, “Say what you would to any other acquaintance, co-worker, or friend.” What we mean is – see that person, not their disability.

I See You – three small, yet powerful words. Know that I see each of you as the people who power e-Buddies and our mission of friendship.

Best,

Lisa Derx
Vice President
