This is a new segment of the e-Beat! Each month we will highlight a school or agency involved in e-Buddies. Our hope is that this will be an opportunity to share some of the challenges and triumphs encountered through group participation in e-Buddies!

This month, we spoke with Marty Gelozin from Noble of Indiana in Indianapolis, Indiana.

How long has your group been involved in e-Buddies?
We have been involved in e-Buddies since late 2002. We still have nine people active from the original group. We have one pair with 150 e-mails and five more people with over 100 e-mails.

How many members are currently matched with e-Buddies?
We currently have 21 matched participants with several more in the process of becoming matched with e-Buddies.

What are some key challenges you have faced and overcome?
The main challenge is getting the weekly e-mails done EVERY week. Although generally this is not a problem, some weeks require more of my time. In addition, we have several part time people participating who give us less latitude and opportunity to get them done.

How do you make e-Buddies work with your group?
We prioritize our people by their opportunities. We have part time people and we also have people who are out of the building most of the week that we try to get done as soon as we can while doing the full time people whenever the opportunity arises.

What have your group members gained by participating in e-Buddies?
I think that the most obvious gain is the one to one relationship that is absolutely no different than any other two people with a computer can have regardless of who they are. It is also a bit ironic and amusing that a machine that has such amazing and far reaching benefit to the very highest levels of science and industry can also be such a useful tool to a group of people, who, one would think, would have no use for such high technology.
