Do you ever wonder what America looked like to the Pilgrims? I think it must have looked like paradise, when, after weeks spent at sea they landed on the shores of this country. One can only admire the breathtaking courage they showed in embarking on a perilous journey to an unknown world. They knew not what would happen, yet they undertook the trip.
I think making a new friend is like that journey. There is risk – perhaps the relationship will fail, perhaps the two people won’t like each other, perhaps there will be some misunderstandings or hurt feelings. There is also reward – the satisfaction of connecting with another person, the joy of sharing laughter together, the fun of discovering similar likes or dislikes.
As you remember the Pilgrims this Thanksgiving, give thanks for the many gifts you give to your friends and the many you receive.
All the best,
