e-Buddies in Action!
This is a new segment of the e-Beat! Each month we will highlight a school or agency involved in e-Buddies. Our hope is that this will be an opportunity to share some of the challenges and triumphs encountered through group participation in e-Buddies!
This month, we spoke with Cathey Conte from MacDonald Training Center in Tampa, Florida!
How long has your group been involved in e-Buddies?
Our current group has been involved for 2 years, and our agency had some participants as far back as 2002.
How many members are currently matched with e-Buddies?
We currently have about 5 members. We started with many, many more. But I can tell you that these are 5 'quality' buddies. They e-mail religiously!
What are some key challenges you have faced and overcome?
At first it was difficult to get everyone set up with an e-mail account. I decided from the beginning that the usernames would have to follow a naming convention in order for me to keep up with them. The passwords are all the same. That keeps me from having to look up a password from a paper file when they forget what theirs is.
How do you make e-Buddies work with your group?
They make it work actually! They come into the computer lab on a schedule. When it's their time, the first thing they do is check their e-mail.
What have your group members gained by participating in e-Buddies?
They have gained the rich enjoyment of friendship, learning, and sharing with someone else.
Do you work with a group of e-Buddies participants? We'd love to feature your group here! Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
