People sometimes ask me if an e-Buddies friendship is a true friendship – if contact only through e-mail is good enough to sustain a relationship. I always answer positively, talking about how my e-Buddy, Daniel, and I have been matched for six years and e-mail daily. Now, though, I can always use other friendships as examples.
This year brought many life transitions for me – I married in September, sold the condo I had called home for eight years, and moved to a neighboring state to my husband’s home. In the midst of all the happy planning and not-so-happy packing and cleaning, I found that I had less time to reach out to friends – except through e-mail. If not for e-mail, I sometimes think I would never have a chance to catch up with my friends. And, in fact, for friends that are far away, I have found that we communicate more often now that we are using e-mail instead of trying to find the time to phone.
So, yes – e-mail friendships are true and lasting, as long as they contain the essential elements of trust and respect.
Happy Holidays to all our e-mail friends!! May the new year bring you peace and joy.
All the best,
