Eunice Kennedy Shriver once gave a speech is which she quoted the philosopher Teilhard de Chardin, who wrote:
"Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of Love and then, for the second time in history,
Man will have discovered fire."
I like those words, no more so than now, when amid the dark and chill of winter, we
celebrate Valentine’s Day. I think it fitting that Mrs. Shriver uttered those words, as there are few people in the world who have worked as hard to harness the energies of love as she has. It surely is due to her drive, her vision, and her motivation of thousands of others that people with intellectual disabilities have come out of the darkness of isolation and despair. As part of Best Buddies, you are part of that continuing work.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you! May you share it with your Best Buddy.
All the best,
