I like holiday traditions. My New Year's Eve traditions include enjoying the last of the plentiful and delicious Christmas cookies my mother bakes each year, staying up to watch the new year break in Times Square, kissing someone I love at midnight, and calling family members just after the hour strikes to wish them a happy new year.
I do all of these things while listening to the song Auld Lang Syne, the tune so often associated with New Year's Eve. This year, that song will have new poignancy, as I will be remembering my e-Buddy, Daniel Thompson. Daniel was diagnosed with cancer last spring, and he passed away on November 30th.
Daniel believed in the power of connections, of friendship, of having faith, and doing your part. He told everyone he knew about e-Buddies, gave speeches at our leadership conferences, and did anything I ever asked him to and some I didn't to promote Best Buddies. My life was graced by his friendship over the last seven years, and I miss him.
So, this year, I will be counting Daniel as one of my blessings as the old year joins the new, grateful for every person who keeps e-Buddies going and made our friendship possible.
All the best,
