e-Buddies in Action!
Each month, we are happy to take the time to highlight a school or agency that is involved in e-Buddies. Our hope is that this will be an opportunity to share some of the challenges and triumphs encountered through group participation in e-Buddies!
This month we spoke with Patti of UPARC in Clearwater, Florida.
How long has your group been involved in e-Buddies?
How many members are currently matched with e-Buddies?
What are some key challenges you have faced and overcome?
The students work in a work shop and have to be pulled out to send their email. Sometimes if they are busy working it is hard to get them to stop to send their email.
Many of the participants want to email every day if they could. Currently there are so many participants involved they can only write once a week. Otherwise it would be overwhelming.
One Buddy gets very upset when her e-Buddy doesn’t write her back. She takes it personal.
How do you make e-Buddies work with your group?
The participants take an e-Buddies class. Currently there are 4 classes that meet once a week in a classroom that has 10 computers.
What have your group members gained by participating in e-Buddies?
The participants have gained wonderful friendships. They really do consider their e-Buddy as one of their best friends. Every student wants to participate.
Do you work with a group of e-Buddies participants? We'd love to feature your group here! Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
