Dear Friends,

Part of what I like about summer is gardening. I like seeing a seed grow into a flourishing plant, producing flowers or vegetables. I find that watching and waiting for the first tomatoes teaches me patience. It still seems a miracle to me that from small green stems come yellow flowers and then tiny green tomatoes and eventually big red tomatoes. Truly, watching this happen makes me believe that anything is possible.

Just like all of you make me believe that it is possible for those with intellectual disabilities to be part of our lives, not just sometimes, but all the time. To believe that they will take their place in the world, as rightfully as anyone else. It may take more time than we would like, and it will take action and effort on everyone's part. But that time and effort and patient hope is worth the harvest of inclusion we are all working towards.

Thank you for being part of Best Buddies.

All the best,
Lisa Derx
Vice President
