Dear Friends,

As I write this, I am listening to President Obama's remarks on the 19th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I remember when that Act was first signed into law, how proud I was to see our nation finally breaking down the barriers to full inclusion for people with disabilities.

So much has changed since then, our country is much more inclusive than it was, and you, as a member of Best Buddies, are part of that movement.

Yet, there is still work to be done, prejudices to overcome and attitudes to change. I hope all of us will continue the work, taking pride in our progress, and banding together to make the changes we must. As President Obama said:

Until every American with a disability can learn in their local public school in the manner best for them, until they can apply for a job without fear of discrimination, and live and work independently in their communities if that's what they choose, we've got more work to do.

All the best,
Lisa Derx
Vice President
