Northern Kentucky University Chapter Match Party!

By Holly Caudill-Grote
Best Buddies Kentucky

On Saturday, January 15, College Buddies at Northern Kentucky University gathered into the game room of the Student Union to meet their new Buddies. The Match Party introduced 14 new Buddy Pairs to the state of Kentucky and was a huge success.

The College Buddies, Buddies and their families enjoyed refreshments, snacks, and lots of fun games throughout the afternoon and spent time getting to know one another. The Buddy Pairs played billiards, air hockey, foosball, Wii Bowling, Guitar Hero, and the crowd favorite: Wii Just Dance.

College Buddy Director, Joni Riewoldt was chosen by Best Buddies Kentucky staff to lead this new chapter in September 2010. In just a few short months, Joni and her team of Officers recruited over 38 College Buddies and have already planned several great events for this semester.

Joni was proud of the Match Party, saying, "It was so much fun. Seeing all the College Buddies meet their Buddies for the first time was amazing. Everything went over so smoothly and all the pairs were having so much fun. We danced, sang, played video games and got to know each other in a safe environment. It was so great to see all our hard work and stress pay off. I cannot wait to do it again! Then getting my first hug from Nina (my Buddy) and listening to her talk and playing air hockey together made me realize why I am so passionate about Best Buddies and thankful for this opportunity."

Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati serves as the Host Site for the Northern Kentucky Chapter. Best Buddies Kentucky greatly appreciates the hard work of the Host Site Coordinator, Pam Rieke in recruiting Buddies to participate.

I feel so blessed to be part of such a wonderful thing. My life was changed today due to some amazing Buddies. - Ashley Cross, Membership Coordinator of Best Buddies at NKU
