e-Buddies in Action!

Periodically, we are happy to take the time to highlight a school or agency that is involved in e-Buddies. Our hope is that this will be an opportunity to share some of the challenges and triumphs encountered through group participation in e-Buddies!

This edition we feature our participants from Eliot-Hine Middle School in Washington, DC. The group is led by Special Education teacher Mr. Jesse Gauthier. We thank him for his efforts to bring e-Buddies to his students.

How long has your group been involved in e-Buddies?
Our group was created January 2012. So we are coming up on our 1 year anniversary!

What are some key challenges you have faced and overcome?
Helping the students who have minimal writing and typing skills. e-Buddies has been a great way for these students to improve those skills, while creating a new friendship.

How do you make e-Buddies work with your group?
We schedule a time every week for e-Buddies and we give the students a form letter to type. This seems to be what has worked best for our group so far.

What have your group members gained by participating in e-Buddies?
They have improved their typing skills, are more proficient on computers, and they enjoy hearing from their e-Buddies. They get excited every week when it is time to write back and sometimes the check their email everyday to see if their e-Buddy has written back. It has been a great success!
