BBI Spotlight

Throughout the year Best Buddies International hosts a variety of special events in an effort to raise much needed funds and awareness.

The Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Washington, D.C. was held on Saturday, October 20th. This five-star event brought together celebrities, athletes, and individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to make a difference and change lives!

Participants chose to participate in a 100K (62 miles), 50 mile or 20 mile bike ride led by cycling legend George Hincapie. Each route took the cyclists through a scenic tour of our nation's capital. Those that did not cycle joined our 5K walk/run which was led by Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis. Everyone was treated to an up-close and personal view of the monuments and history of our nation's capital.

After participants made it to the finish-line they were able to take some time to relax with professional massages, hot showers, food and beverages. They also were able to watch the Friendship Races which pair Best Buddies program participants with celebrity guests and professional athletes. The day of festivities ended with a gourmet meal and musical performance by Sugar Ray.

Although the events vary in style and format, the general purpose remains the same: to increase awareness about Best Buddies International and to raise much needed funds to support our programs.
