Ask Emerson

Dear Emerson,

I hope you don't mind, but I have a 2 part question.

  1. Sometimes I get an e-mail from my e-Buddy that is just a bunch of jumbled letters and numbers. It doesn't make sense and I don't understand why this happens. Can you please explain?
  2. I am going away for Spring Break soon and I want to make sure that my e-Buddy doesn't try to e-mail me while I am gone, since I won't be here to read the e-mail. What should I do?

Thanks for all your help Emerson!
Sincerely,
Sadie in San Francisco

-------------------------

Hello there Sadie! You have asked me 2 fantastic questions, and I would love to answer them.

  1. Sometimes the e-Buddies system gets a little overwhelmed with e-mails that have a lot of history. By this I mean if you and your e-Buddy always hit "reply" when responding to each other, this causes the e-mail to be extremely long. If you ever get an e-mail that can't be read, start a new one. Close the bad e-mail, open a fresh blank e-mail, and type ebuddy@ebuddies.org in the To: section. This will start a fresh e-mail thread. Also, let your e-Buddy know that you couldn't read their last e-mail, so they know to repeat what they said before.
  2. My E-mail System has a fabulous feature which allows you to enter the dates of when you will be away. That way, your e-Buddy is notified that you are going to be away from the computer and that you won't be able to e-mail them during that time. Go to the e-Buddies website at www.ebuddies.org. On the left hand side of the screen, you can click on the "e-Buddies Community" tab and sign in with your login information. Once you are logged in, click the "View Status" tab. Here is where you can enter the dates of your vacation. It's as simple as that. Teachers and group administrators can also do this for times when their groups will be away. If you do not have your login information, please e-mail your e-Buddies representative. They can help you with that information.

Signing off,
Emerson
