Ask Emerson
All of your e-Buddies questions answered here!

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "The only way to have a friend is to be one." In the spirit of those inspiring words, Ask Emerson is a feature designed to help you be the best friend you can be. Each month, we will select a question or two for response. Send your questions to eBuddiesComments@bestbuddies.org.

Dear Emerson,

I'm going away to college in a few weeks, and I'm worried that with all the confusion of getting settled in a new place and finding my way around, I won't be able to e-mail my e-Buddy for the first few weeks. What should I do?

-- Concerned Freshman

Dear Worried,

It's probably a good idea to start talking with your e-Buddy now about your concerns. Explain to him/her that you'll be moving to a new place soon, and you may not be able to send e-mail until you get settled in. You should also explain some of the reasons why it may be difficult for you to send e-mails regularly at first (finding your way around campus, getting used to the computer lab, adjusting to your class schedule, etc) and ask that s/he be patient.

You also should reassure your e-Buddy that you will be e-mailing again as soon as possible, and that s/he should continue to e-mail you. When you finally do get situated at school, you'll be able to send a nice long e-mail, telling your e-Buddy all about college life!

Signing off,

Emerson
