Ask Emerson
All of your e-Buddy questions answered here!

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "The only way to have a friend is to be one." In the spirit of those inspiring words, Ask Emerson is a feature designed to help you be the best friend you can be. Each month, we will select a question or two for response. Send your questions to eBuddiesComments@bestbuddies.org.

Dear Emerson:
My e-Buddy has been asking me a lot of personal questions. How much information is it okay to share? Thanks!
~Unsure in Utah

Dear Unsure,

Best Buddies prohibits the exchange of photographs, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, and the transmission of e-mails containing attachments, and anything pornographic in nature. The rest is left up to the discretion of the volunteer.

I have an e-Buddy, and I have found that sometimes, like any other friendship, you really do wind up talking about the weather. Therefore, what part of the country you live in and even what city might be something you'd want to share with your e-Buddy. Also, you might live in a part of the country they are not familiar with, so it gives you one more thing to talk about. But, as with anything, I'd exercise caution and not get too specific.

Signing Off,

Emerson
